Harry smiled as he walked around the park with Draco. It may have been crazy to do so since it was snowing with big, thick snowflakes, but then again that was what Warming Charms were for. He was still amazed at the advantages the Wizarding Community had even though he’d been with it for ten years now.
Draco complained a little about going out in “this blasted weather” but eventually gave in when Harry had given him puppy eyes, a look that was far more effective now that he had contacts.
“It’s nice out here,” he commented lightly to Draco who only snorted in response.
Harry laughed and wrapped his arms around Draco. “It gives me more reason to cuddle up to you.” At least that made Draco smile.
He let his eyes wander over the park, smiling at all the children romping around and playing in the snow. One little boy particularly, who couldn’t have been more than four, made him stop in his tracks. He was pushing around a huge ball of snow that Harry guessed would later be part of a snowman, but the snowball was slowly starting to tower over him.
There was something about the scene that had him chuckling and giddy.
Draco came up behind him and wrapped his arms around his middle, pulling him tight against his chest. Harry leaned into him willingly with a whimsical little sigh.
“Got something on your mind?”
Harry nodded and without thinking said, “I want a baby.”
Draco was silent for several long moments, watching the child fend off the help that his parents were trying to give him and persevere on his own.
“Persistent little tyke, isn’t he?”
Harry laughed and nodded. It was slow work, but he watched as the kid successfully made the base of the snowman by himself.
Honestly, he didn’t really think Draco was going to respond to his wishes, he was only happy that the ex-Slytherin hadn’t recoiled at the whole idea. Especially since Draco had been so pressured by his family in the business of having an heir lately. The baby issue was a bit of a hot button.
“I suppose I could live with a baby… but if he’s more like you than me then he’s got to go.”
Harry’s whole body froze before he spun around to face Draco, he was sure his face was one of disbelief.
“But… I thought, I mean you told your parents…”
Draco reached up and placed a finger to his lips, shaking his head. “I told my parents that I wouldn’t have a baby simply on the principle of ensuring the Malfoy line. That doesn’t mean I don’t want one, I’m just not doing it on anyone else’s terms but our own.”
Harry leaned into Draco and gave him a searing kiss that had the force to bruise. They stayed that way for several long moments, wrapped in each other’s embraces just kissing in the snow.
It was with one last glance at the small boy that they started the short walk home hand in hand.
“He’ll definitely be better off if he’s more Gryffindor than Slytherin.”
“Right and have him nearly killing himself on a daily basis from sheer stupidity? Please.”
Harry laughed. “Fine then, you’re the one that’s carrying him!”
“And bloat up line a piñata?!”
They bantered that way the whole way home about who the child should be more like, who was going to carry it, and what they might name it but it was nine months later that they welcomed a little girl that Draco had carried.
They would find in the coming years that she looked more like Draco, but had her fair share of traits from both of them, including Harry’s knack for jumping head long into things… and off furniture.
Despite the near misses and close calls that Draco vehemently blamed Harry’s stubbornness for, neither could deny that she was an adventure that they didn’t want to miss a moment of.
